The Dixieland Express has a smaller band within the band that plays trad jazz music in the tradition of New Orleans style jazz funerals. Instrumentation includes cornet (or trumpet), trombone, banjo and tuba. The band usually plays at the cemetery with solemn/religious music before the eulogy/service with music such as When the Saints Go Marching In, Just a Little While to Stay Here, Amazing Grace to name a few well known tunes. Immediately after the service when people start to leave, the band usually plays more upbeat Second Line musical numbers such as Bourbon Street Parade, Avalon, Second Line (the tune), Down By the Riverside to name a few. Rates start at $600 for the four piece jazz band.
See the picture of the band at a recent jazz funeral. You might not need a horse drawn hearse, usually just a simple grave side concert is appropriate. The band can either march or play in place or both. Let us know if we can provide traditional jazz music appropriate for the occasion.
